Jamal Yunos escapes police custody

PETALING JAYA: Umno’s Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos (pix) is believed to have fled from police custody, after he was reported missing today from a hospital where he as being remanded.
This came just hours after he was charged at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur for causing public nuisance last year, and where he was to be served with two other bail orders for trespassing.
Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the Sungai Besar Umno division chief left the hospital compound, where he was receiving treatment for back pain, just as court officials were about to bail him.
“While the bail documentations were being processed, Jamal had left the hospital building.
“He will be contacted again to complete the said documentations,” he said in a statement today.
The controversial Red Shirt leader was earlier this morning slapped with a public nuisance charge over his alleged protest against the proposed Better Beer Festival 2017, where he had smashed bottles in front of the Selangor state secretariat in Shah Alam last October.
He claimed trial to the charge which carries a RM400 fine, and bail has been set at RM3,000. The case for set for mention at the Shah Alam magistrate's court on June 8.
Fadzil said Jamal faces two other charges under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespassing, which the latter had also pleaded not guilty.
Both cases have been set for mention on July 4 at the Ampang magistrate’s court, with bail set at RM3,000 each.
