ARAU: The Perlis Jamalullail clan today urged Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and nine Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen who rejected the appointment of Datuk Seri Azlan Man as Mentri Besar of Perlis to tender an open apology to the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.
The clan's spokesman Syed Zolkifli Syed Abdul Rahman Jamalullail described the action by the nine BN assemblymen who boycotted to the swearing-in ceremony for the Perlis Mentri Besar yesterday as defying the ruler.
"They should tender their apology as Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin must have felt offended and displeased ... (their action) has also caused uneasiness among the people of Perlis," he said after lodging a police report against Shahidan, who is also Perlis Umno liaison chairman, at the Arau District Police headquarters here today.
Syed Zolkifli said the report was lodged following the statement by Shahidan during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday who allegedly asked Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin not to interfere in the administration of the state.
Meanwhile, Kuala Perlis assemblyman Nor Azam Karap of PKR also lodged a police report today against Shahidan, urging the authorities to investigate the latter for allegedly making offensive remarks against the Raja of Perlis.
"On behalf of those who are dissatisfied with Shahidan's action, we ask the authorities to investigate this matter," he told reporters after staging a rally to show support for Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin in front of the Al Hussain Mosque in Kuala Perlis near here.
Perlis Non-Governmental Organisation Coalition chairman Dr Ammar Hassan in a separate press conference here today said the disrespectful attitude against the royal Institution must be discarded and proper channels should be used to voice out any opinions.
"Always be careful of what we write, maintain good manners and do not have any negative views against our ruler as it could have a bad impact to the party," he said. — Bernama
