GEORGE TOWN: A DAP lawmaker described it as totally unacceptable that police have not yet reopened the Altantuya Shariibuu murder case, due to the reasoning that they did not have any new leads.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said there is no need for any new police report to be lodged over the case.
"I urge Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun to reopen the case and establish Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to determine the motive," he said in a statement issued today.
"The matter of lodging report in such circumstances is only a mere formality and police can reopen investigations if necessary."
Ramkarpal has been requested by Altantuya's father Shaariibuu Setev to highlight how the case has devastated him and his family.
In a letter to Ramkarpal in the Mongolian language with the help of a certified English translation, Setev related his predicament and how he had coped with life after losing his daughter.
Altantuya is believed to have been shot dead before her body blown up with explosives near a forest in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, 2006.
Sirul Azhar Umar and accomplice Azilah Hadri, both former policemen were convicted for the crime.
However, Sirul had fled to Australia, while former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, who charged with them, was freed on Oct 31, 2008.
