MUAR: The Home Ministry (KDN) wants certain aspects of national security to be communitised to assist the government in creating a safer country for future development.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the emphasis should be made at every level, especially in Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) to overcome social problems such quarrels among the races, which could be detrimental to the people and would eventually affect the progress of the nation.
Apart from that, it was also intended to cultivate mutual understanding among members of the community while assisting security personnel to look after the country's security.
"I believe the question of security is linked to the progress of the country.
"It is not possible for a nation to develop if the country experience security problems.
"As such for Malaysia to develop, there should be a feeling of security in the hearts of the people," he said at a Thankgiving ceremony organised by KDN for the Pagoh parliamentary constituency at the Higher National Youth Skills Institute (IKTBN) today.
Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, said there would be a movement nationwide to create awareness among the people on this shared responsibility.
"This is not to relieve the duty of police and their responsibilities would remain and may even be expanded.
"Nonetheless the involvement of the people to assist security personnel in KDN such as police and the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela), would help to overcome the security problems to make the country safer," he said.
He added that the setting up of JKKK all this while, was geared towards development, without much focus on security.
In the ceremony, Muhyiddin handed over contributions in the form of daily essential goods to 100 orphans and 50 single mothers and destitutes in Pagoh parliamentary constituency. — Bernama
