Musa Aman urged to assist police in criminal intimidation probe

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah Vice President Junz Wong has urged former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman to give his statement to the police if he claimed he was innocent of the allegations of criminal intimidation made by Sabah Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin last week.
Wong said Musa should not be afraid to assist the police in their investigation on Juhar's allegations rather than having his lawyer provide press statements on the matter.
"The statement made by his (Musa's) lawyer is self-serving and biased. It is very mischievous of the lawyer concerned to try and mislead the public.
"It is for the courts to decide – and not Musa Aman, his lawyer or anyone else – and to exonerate him (Musa) from any allegations made," Wong said in a statement here today.
Wong, who is also Sabah Agriculture and Food Industries Minister, said the Head of State, being a well-respected personality, would not have lodged a police report had there been no such threat.
On May 19, Juhar lodged a police report against the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chief believed to be for criminal intimidation.
In confirming the report, Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Ramli Din, however, declined to divulge more details.
Yesterday, Musa's lawyer Zahir Shah issued a statement that his client denied all allegations of criminal intimidation against Juhar or any other person.
The police report was lodged two days after Musa filed a writ of summons at the High Court here against Juhar and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal seeking a declaration that Musa remains as the lawful Sabah chief minister.
Musa was sworn in as Chief Minister of Sabah before Juhar on May 10, after obtaining a simple majority of 31 out of 60 seats in the 14th General Election when two opposition assemblymen declared support for Sabah BN, which only won 29 seats.
However, two days later, Mohd Shafie was sworn in as the new chief minister when several BN assemblymen switched allegiance to Warisan and its Pakatan Harapan allies, which had also won 29 seats in total. — Bernama
