Phone dealer alive despite shot at four times at close range

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 22-year-old smartphone dealer miraculously survived a murder attempt despite being shot at four times by a gunman at close range around noon here today.
The shots rang out at the traffic lights intersection in Taman Sentosa here which witnesses presumed to be firecrackers.
It took place just metres from the St Anne Church and a popular food court here.
The victim had just finished his meal at the food court and was driving away when a lone gunman drove up to his car.
He rolled down his left windscreen and discharged nine rounds of ammunition with a semi-auto revolver at the direction of the intended victim. The gunman, who was wearing a ski mask, got away in another car driven by an accomplice.
The victim was hit three times in his upper chest and shoulders. The victim slumped over his steering wheel, causing his car to ram a lorry.
He was rushed to the district hospital for medical attention. The victim was conscious and the police managed to record a statement from him, Seberang Prai Tengah district police head ACP Nik Ros Azhan Bik Abdul Hamid said.
Police are trying to secure CCTV recordings of the event and have asked eyewitnesses to come forward and help in their investigation.
Nik Ros also appealed to smartphone users who had recorded the shooting to contact the police.
Police are also trying to find the car which was used and abandoned by the gunman.
