Four men rob jewellery shop in Bandar Dato Onn

JOHOR BARU: Four men were believed to be involved in a goldsmith robbery case in a supermarket in Bandar Dato Onn, near here, when people were busy breaking the fast, late yesterday evening.
Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief ACP Shahurinain Jais said the four suspects were believed to have used several weapons including an object resembling a gun and two hammers during the robbery.
"During the incident, the four men wore masks with one of the suspects using a gun-like implement while two other suspects were using two large hammers to break the glass panels of the jewellery exhibition case.
"One more suspect held a bag to receive the jewellery. The jewellery loss is estimated at RM130,000 so far," he said in a statement here this evening.
According to Shahurinain, the incident happened around 7.23pm and took place within three minutes.
"There was no shot fired at the scene and no injury was reported," he added.
He said during the incident, the security guard on duty was in the restroom while four salesmen were on duty at the gold shop.
"When the security guard came out of the rest room, all the suspects had fled. The suspects were believed to be aware that the security guard had a pump gun," Shahurinain said.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
Yesterday, the video of the robbery went viral on social media, which saw a suspect breaking the glass jewellery exhibition case at the jewellery shop before escaping. — Bernama
