JOHOR BARU: There are no shortages of essential food items in Johor for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidil Adha celebration, said Aris Mamat, enforcement chief of the Johor office of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Department.
"Between May 16 and May 26, we conducted checks on 1,620 premises, including 60 Ramadan bazaars, shopping malls and public markets, and found there was adequate supply of essential goods," he said after conducting checks at the Larkin market here this morning.
He said the agency had conducted checks on eight public markets in each district to monitor the 71 items under Price Watch monitoring list.
"The checks revealed that 28 items saw an increase in prices of between 4% to 50%, 33 items saw a reduction in prices between 3.85% to 41.67%, while the remaining 10 items remained unchanged in the past two weeks in Johor," he added.
He said goods which saw an increase in prices included imported round cabbage (from China) which increased from RM4 (recorded on May 23) to RM5 per kg on May 26.
Green chillies also increased from RM9 to RM10 in the same period.
Meanwhile, standard price of chicken dropped from RM8.20 to RM7.80 per kg.
Local beef, imported buffalo meat (India), chicken eggs, coconut milk and grated coconut remained unchanged.
Aris said the 2017 Festive Season Price Control Scheme (SKHMP) for Aidilfitri is yet to be announced.
