Syed Saddiq backs abolition of BTN

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Youth chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman supports a suggestion that the National Civics Bureau (BTN) be closed because it had deviated from the principles on which it was set up.
He said BTN which was initially aimed at raising the patriotic spirit was manipulated for political purposes.
"I see it as a medium to strengthen a political party by inciting one community to hate other races and I feel its original aim is lost and because of this, I think BTN is no longer needed," he told reporters after distributing food for breaking-the-fast from several high-powered motorcycle clubs to traffic policemen and the homeless in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here today.
Syed Saddiq, who is also Muar MP, was commenting on the proposal by Setiawangsa MP, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to close down BTN.
Nik Nazmi reportedly described the bureau as "very bias and toxic in nature towards true national unity" and still operated within the "Cold War framework" whilst the world had changed.
Syed Saddiq said patriotism and social aspects for the youths could be gleaned from the national education system which was seen as far better and more efficient. — Bernama
