Attempt to smuggle 300 boxes of cooking oil from Tawau foiled

TAWAU: A Tawau marine police (PPM) team has foiled an attempt to smuggle 300 boxes of cooking oil to a neighbouring country after a boat was detained in the sea border near Sungai Haji Kuning, last night.
Tawau PPM commander, DSP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said PPM personnel were conducting Ops Gelora patrol when they found a boat heading to Sungai Haji Kunning from Logpond Tanjung Batu before detaining boat at 10.10pm.
"An inspection of the boat found it was carrying 300 boxes of cooking oil valued at about RM12,450 which were being smuggled to a neighbouring country.
"A 27-year-old man was also held," he said in a statement here today.
Nazri said the case had been handed over to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) for further investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — Bernama
