Salahuddin to raise issue of rising prices at cabinet meeting

PUTRAJAYA: Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub said today he would raise at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday the issue of rising prices for action to be taken.
He said he was taking on the responsibility as a minister had yet to be appointed to the existing Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism which had jurisdiction in the matter.
He was briefed by that ministry through the committee to address the cost of living, whereby the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry was also involved in drawing up measures to address the issue of rising prices, especially during Ramadan up to Aidilfitri.
"Assuming the responsibility in terms of being in the committee, I will raise at the Cabinet meeting the issue which is the concern of many," he said at a press conference at his office here.
Earlier, he received a note on the handing over of duties from the former Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek who had helmed the ministry since July 2015.
Salahuddin said he could guarantee that the supply of essential items for Ramadan and Aidilfitri was sufficient and that he would leave the enforcement to the authorities concerned. — Bernama
