Ex-Sabah soldiers urged to join PVATM

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) has urged former soldiers in Sabah to register as its members to enable it to look after their welfare.
PVATM vice president 4, Zaman Bayong said it was much easier for members to receive various assistance provided by the association itself or the Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Affairs Department.
"Currently, we have about 45,000 members statewide including those formerly from the Territorial Army," he told reporters after handing over PVATM aid to 150 association members here today.
Zaman who is also Sabah PVATM chief said the aid was collected from the public in conjunction with Warriors Day.
Meanwhile, Mohd Ishak Abdullah, 81, who was one of the recipients, expressed appreciation for the contribution. He joined the army in 1964 and retired in Johor in 1975. However he is not receiving any pension. He has five children, of whom two are teachers, and 18 grandchildren. — Bernama
