KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will send a team to Thailand to seek extradition of a Malaysian man who is believed to have masterminded the brutal murder of a man at a petrol station in Johor Baru, last December.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said his side would give full cooperation to the Thai authorities for the process.
"I can confirm the arrest of the man this morning and we will send a team to seek extradition of the suspect back to Malaysia," he said after an Iftar ceremony involving police staff and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Bukit Aman Mosque here, tonight.
The man, in his 40s, was arrested by a team of Thai police officers at 7am yesterday in Chaiyaphum province, about 260km northeast of Bangkok.
In the brutal incident on Dec 17, a video clip of which went viral on social media, a 44-year-old man known as "Ah Chiu" was stabbed and run over by a white BMW car at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi, Johor.
Following the killing which shocked the nation as it was ruthlessly carried out in a public place, police acted promptly and managed to arrest several men and a woman suspected to be linked with the incident.
Police also brought two suspects to court in January and continued to hunt for several suspects who were still at large. — Bernama
