PETALING JAYA: Datuk Lee Chong Wei is no longer a director of the company linked to Raj's Banana Leaf and had quit the post before the emergence of a video, which has since gone viral, of its workers washing dishes in a puddle in the backlane of the restaurant
Raj's Banana Leaf via a Facebook post clarified that the purported identity of the restaurant's shareholders is "untrue and incorrect".
"The recent posts circulated on social media pertaining to our shareholders are incorrect.
"The individuals named therein are not and have not been nor associated with the shareholders of our company and or restaurants," it said in its latest statement yesterday without specifying who the individuals were.
The statement added that the restaurant acknowledges that Chong Wei was previously a director of the company but he had resigned from his directorship prior to the said incident.
"He was in any event not involved in the day to day operations of our restaurants.
"We the management of Raj take full and unequivocal responsibility for the said incident on 28-05-2018," it added.
The badminton ace, who was said to be a part owner of the restaurant, has refuted any link to the banana leaf business despite an ownership check that revealed his name as a company director.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) Health and Environment deputy director Chandrakant Patel said Raj's Banana Leaf in Bangsar will be closed until further notice due to hygiene violations.
