PADANG BESAR: The 29km border fence and wall separating Malaysia and Thailand from Padang Besar, Perlis to Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah is aged, insecure and must be replaced.
Having said that, Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah described the run-down border fence as the main route for undocumented foreigners and extremist groups to enter Malaysia illegally.
"A National Security Council officer had scrutinised it but there has not been any decision yet. The council does realise the national security implications.
"On the part of the police, we have submitted suggestions and recommendations including use of technology such as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and drones in hot spots for maximum control," he told reporters after visiting the border fence from Padang Besar and Bukit Kayu Hitam today. — Bernama
