KUALA LUMPUR: Seven non-governmental organisations (NGO) have lodged a police report against an individual who is believed to have made a death threat against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his Facebook page.
The NGOs, Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah (MJMM), Kesatuan Melayu National, Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (Irimm), Akhlak Rahsia Cekal (ARC), Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (PERMAS), Refomis and Kipidap made the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here at noon today.
MJMM president Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah who is representing all the NGOs said the action of the Facebook account holder under the name 'Ayahanda Fadzley Mohd Yusof' was irresponsible in linking the threat with his organisation.
"Yesterday, in a Facebook statement, the man threatened to shoot Tun (Dr Mahathir) and said almost 2,000 members of NGOs such as Persatuan Ayahanda would be gathering at Dataran Merdeka as a protest against the Pakatan Harapan government.
"On behalf of the other NGOs, I would like to stress that we are not involved in the allegation of the individual. We fully support the government of the day as Malaysia is a democratic country and the results of the election by the people would be honoured," he said.
Abdul Rani hoped the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would investigate the matter and take stern action against the individual involved to stem out such social ill which could affect the harmony in the country. — Bernama
