Allianz Malaysia names Rafiah Salim as first woman chairman

PETALING JAYA: Allianz Malaysia Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Rafiah Salim (pix) as its first woman chairman effective May 23, succeeding Tan Sri Razali Ismail who retired from the post.
The insurer said in a statement that Rafiah was appointed as independent director since 2012 with international experience such as holding the position as assistant secretary general for Human Resource Management of the United Nations (UN), New York from 1997 to 2002. Worth to note that she was the first Malaysian appointed to such a high ranking post in the UN.
From 2003 to 2006, Rafiah was the executive director of the International Centre for Leadership in Finance, now known as The ICLIF Leadership And Governance Centre.
In 2006, she was appointed as the vice-chancellor/president of University of Malaya. She was also the executive director of NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women Malaysia from 2009 to 2013.
"Rafiah brings her vast experience and proven leadership to the role of chairman and has all the qualities to lead Allianz Malaysia to its next stage of development. On behalf of the management, I would like to thank Razali for his strong leadership and wish him the very best in his retirement," said Allianz Malaysia CEO Zakri Khir.
