PETALING JAYA: Kedah Pakatan Harapan is confident that the matter of the appointment of the state assembly speaker will be resolved soon as the coalition is currently in negotiations with the opposition, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.
"We plan to have our first state assembly sitting on July 1. So, before that, we have to sort things out and I think it's well under way, I'm not too worried about it," he told reporters after attending the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting here today.
The state government has yet to decide on the state speaker as a consensus must be reached by all parties.
In the 14th general election, Pakatan Harapan won 18 out of the 36 seats in the Kedah legislative assembly, PAS (15) and BN (3).
Asked on the possibility of another election being held in Kedah, Mukhriz said it was unnecessary and it would be costly.
"I was told by the state election commission that it will cost no less than RM18 million. It is costly, it's time consuming and everybody is having election fatigue, and no one wants to have another election right now," he added. — Bernama
