GEORGE TOWN: A group of seven families from the Padang Tembak people's housing project (PPR) is appealing to the state government to cancel the eviction notice that had been issued to them.
The disgruntled residents said they received a notice on March 27 ordering them to move out by today.
The affected residents, who protested outside the state administration building at Komtar, said they hoped the state government could provide a valid explanation for the notice.
Coordinator for the Padang Tembak PPR's Housing, R. Karthiges said the residents who are renting units there were not given a reason for the sudden notice.
Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) leader Choo Chon Kai urged the authorities to respond to the plight of the residents.
When contacted, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee said he has just been informed and will respond after studying the matter.
"I urge for extension of time to be given, " he added.
