PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has urged schools not to burden teachers with documentation work for the second wave of the Malaysian Education Quality Standard (SKPMg2) for 2017.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said teachers should instead be allowed to focus on their current tasks especially those related to the delivery of high quality education to students.
It added that an audit of the SKPMg2 carried out by the Inspectorate and Quality Assurance Council found that there was confusion among school authorities as they were unclear about the documents which had to be audited.
"The ministry said the evidence which should be presented are only the current management documents of the schools.
"However, they are unclear about the evidence, which is why the teachers were asked to prepare new evidence which is a burden to them, whereas the evidence which will be audited are only the current management documents prepared by the school from time to time," he said.
Recently, the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) urged Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik to help resolve the SKPMg2 issue which it said was a burden to teachers.
He said the NUTP had also received many complaints from teachers on the matter as they were burdened by the documentation work needed for the SKPMg2.
According to the Education Ministry, the SKPMg2 was first implemented in March 2017 as an self-assessment tool to ensure more systematic management so as to give a high impact on students and to help the schools identify their strengths and weaknesses for the purpose of improvement.
Based on the feedback obtained from 4,735 audited schools, it was found that most schools had used the SKPMg2 as a guide for school management and counselling, the statement said. — Bernama
