Car wash organised by children raises money for Tabung Harapan Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Committed to contribute something to help the country, a group of children and teenagers have decided to operate a car wash service to raise funds for the Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM).
Tejas Shree Udahyah Kumar, 11, with 20 friends, aged six to 17, were operating car wash services in their residential area at Taman Yarl, Jalan Klang Lama, today.
"I am very excited and woke up as early as 7am to start our car wash service ... with my friends, we want to help Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) and the country," she told reporters here.
One of the residents, Padma Nadarajah, 60, said she did not expect her idea would receive a positive response from fellow residents.
"When the government set up the fund, I was compelled to think what can be done to help the country. I share this idea with neighbours and they are very supportive of the idea that some volunteered to sponsor the washing equipment," she said.
She said all the proceeds from the charity activities would be channelled to the fund.
Meanwhile, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who was also present at the location, said she was moved by the spirit and efforts of the people to help the country.
"This effort is made voluntarily and proves the spirit of love for the country among the people is getting deeper," she said.
Since its launch on Wednesday, THM has managed to raise RM18.6 million.
THM was created by the prime minister after many expressed their desire to help the government reduce its RM1 trillion national debt.
