KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar today dismissed a news portal report that she would resign as the MP for Permatang Pauh, to enable her father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest the by-election and become an MP.
"A very clear and obvious fake news. Do not entertain this fake news. If my father returns to the world of politics, he will definitely hold a press conference and announce the matter.
"I have a duty to fulfill for my constituents in Permatang Pauh. Today, I discussed the programme to combat drug abuse. Tomorrow and Sunday, I will be there for a post-flood programme and with regard to a pumphouse," she said when approached by Bernama after she had appeared as a guest on 'The Nation' programme of the Bernama News Channel TV station.
A portal, quoting a source in PKR, claimed that Nurul Izzah would resign as MP to enable Anwar to contest the by-election to be held after Aidilfitri.
In the general election on May 9, Nurul Izzah retained the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat for PKR by polling 35,534 votes to win by a majority of 15,668 votes.
She beat Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said of the Barisan Nasional (who secured 19,866 votes) and Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden of PAS (14,428 votes).
Anwar was given a full pardon and released from prison on May 16. He said afterward that his charges had been expunged following the pardon. — Bernama
