IPOH: The setting up of Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM) provides an avenue for Malaysians to show support to the new Pakatan Harapan government in reducing the national debt, said Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming.
He said the fund was also seen as a patriotic symbol that proved that the people really loved the country.
Nga, who is also Teluk Intan MP, said it was not the amount of the donation, but the sincerity to help the country that was the basis of the setting up of the fund.
"Either one sen or RM1 or other amounts that one can afford to contribute to the fund as most importantly it is based on sincerity to help the government to address challenges, especially in terms of national debt," he said.
He said this to reporters after receiving contributions amounting to RM1 million from Spritzer Bhd and Yee Lee Corporation Bhd, each contributing RM500,000 to the Tabung Harapan Malaysia, here today.
Spritzer Bhd's Research and Development director, Dr Chuah Chaw Teo, said he was proud to be able to work together with other Malaysians in contributing to the fund that was set up on May 30.
He said the donation could also help motivate others in the private sector and other corporate bodies to help ensure the debt problem could be addressed efficiently.
"We hope leaders who are in charge of the current administration of the country are capable of meeting the challenges ahead, especially in ensuring the burden of national debt is reduced from the original amount," he added. — Bernama
