Hunter mistaken for wild boar shot dead

KAJANG: A 40-year-old hunter was shot dead by his friend after being mistaken for a wild boar during a hunting trip in a jungle at Kampung Sungei Pening, Semenyih here early on Saturday.
The victim died of a gunshot wound to his abdomen after his friend opened fire with a shotgun on seeing movement in some undergrowth which he mistook for the presence of a wildboar at about 6am.
Kajang district police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff said the victim and his 44-year-old friend, both Sabahans, had set out to hunt for wild boar with shotguns past midnight on Saturday.
He said both men broke up and took their own paths on reaching the jungle.
Ahmad Dzaffir said the shooting took place when it was still dark and the victim's friend alerted police soon after the incident.
He said police seized two homemade shotguns and seven live ammunition.
He said the case in classified as murder and the victim's friend who was arrested is being held under a seven-day remand order.
