Work on Seremban general market to be completed in January

SEREMBAN: Following a recent fire which destroyed the first floor of the Seremban General Market, better known as Pasar Besar Seremban, its repair and upgrading works are expected to be fully completed next January.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman, Teo Kok Seong said the overall repair and upgrading works involved an estimated cost of about RM12 million.
"Work on the premises will take some time as beam structures on the first floor need to to be replaced to ensure safety of the traders and the public.
"We also plan to install lifts at suitable locations for the comfort of the public and build a total of 306 new stalls covering three sections, namely for food and clothes, wet and dry goods," he told reporters after a visit to the market here today.
Meanwhile, Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) president, Datuk Abd. Halim Abd Latif, who was also present said the council planned to turn Pasar Besar Seremban into a tourist attraction.
Currently, affected traders are temporarily conducting business as usual at the market's parking lot. — Bernama
