PUTRAJAYA: The authorities will act against former Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali (pix), whose service was terminated on Monday night if any reports are lodged against him, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Home Minister said the ministry would investigate any reports lodged against any persons, regardless if he was holding a position or otherwise if there was enough evidence to open a case.
"Of course it (action against Apandi) involves our ministry, but it depends whether there is any report lodged against any parties concerned.
"This is whether or not he is the AG, and whether the case is prima facie," he told a press conference after his first official visit to the Immigration Department headquarters, here.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had late consented to the appointment of Tommy Thomas as the new AG and the termination of Apandi's service.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had previously said Apandi would be investigated on his purported involvement with the previous Barisan Nasional government.
Apandi, in January 2016, cleared former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak of any criminal wrongdoing or corruption, ending investigations into the latter's alleged involvement in the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Apandi was appointed as the AG on July 27, 2015, replacing Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail whose tenure was terminated due to health reasons.
