Cenbet commends Thomas' appointment as AG

PETALING JAYA: The Centre For A Better Tomorrow (CenBet) has congratulated Tommy Thomas on his appointment as the new Attorney-General.
CenBet said his appointment comes at a time when the country is undergoing robust changes and that based on his track record, he has what it takes to effectively carry out the job.
"We are gratified that Thomas' appointment has been endorsed by the Bar Council and the legal fraternity.
"As an advocacy group for transparency and good governance, we are also glad that his appointment was not based on race or religion, but merits," CenBet said in a statement.
In this respect, CenBet said the Malay rulers must be commended for upholding the Federal Constitution.
The Federal Government had also acted wisely to defuse a potential constitutional crisis.
"We hope that Thomas will be able to live up to the public's expectations to uphold the Rule of Law to the highest standards.
"The main priority would be for him to prosecute high-profile corruption cases to underline the new administration's zero-tolerance on graft and abuse of power," added CenBet.
