PLUS expects 2.2m vehicles on the highway

SEBERANG JAYA: Highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) is expecting traffic volume on the North-South Expressway to increase to 2.2 million vehicles during the two days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Its managing director Datuk Azman Ismail this will be due to the announcement by federal government on the 50% toll discount.
He said compared to only 1.5 million road users during normal days, the increase will be between 40 to 50%.
"For road users I advise them to plan their journey accordingly to avoid the congestions and to arrived safely to their respective destination," he said.
Azman said PLUS will also place additional self service kiosk at strategic location along the highway to enable motorist to top up their touch and go card during their journey.
He said a total of 70 of those machines will be available before the festive season start next week.
Earlier Azman distributed 1,000 packs of bubur lambuk and nasi briyani to motorists and PLUS staff at the Penang Bridge toll plaza.
He was accompanied by The Light Hotel chairman Azhar Mohammad who also attended the program.
The event was collaborated for the first time between the hotel and the highway concession management company in conjunction with Ramadan month.
