TM announces departure of Shazalli, Fateh Iskandar

    PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) announced the abrupt departure of managing director and group CEO Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly today, stating that his resignation was effective immediately without elaborating on the reason for the move.
    The group said in a statement that deputy group CEO Datuk Bazlan Osman has been redesignated as acting group CEO effective today.
    "The leadership bench under the acting group CEO, Bazlan will continue the strategic and business imperatives for TM," said chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob.
    "The entire board, management and TM employees would like to thank Shazalli for his leadership and contribution to the group. We would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best for his future endeavours," he added, without elaborating on the reason for Shazalli's abrupt departure.
    Shazalli, 56, joined TM in May last year. Prior to his appointment, he was the regional CEO and corporate executive vice president for Axiata Group Bhd's Southeast Asia operations, after being promoted from his previous position as the CEO and director of Celcom Axiata Bhd, a position he held from September 2005 till August 2016.
    Bazlan, 54, was also with Celcom Axiata Bhd previously, as the senior vice-president of corporate finance treasury in 2001 and CFO in 2002. He joined TM as group CFO in 2005.
    Meanwhile, TM's independent and non-executive director Datuk Seri Fateh Iskandar Mohamed Mansor also tendered his resignation, which will be effective Friday.
    Fateh Iskandar, 50, has been serving as TM's director since October 2013. TM said in a filing on Bursa Malaysia that he resigned to pursue other interests.
    On Bursa Malaysia today, TM rose 3.32% or 12 sen to close at RM3.73 on volume of 9.18 million shares.
