KOTA KINABALU: A total of 42 tahfiz centres have been registered as fire squads in Sabah.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Nordin Pauzi said the establishment of the tahfiz fire squads would allow all students at the premises to receive training on using fire extinguishers and techniques to save themselves during an emergency.
"We have identified 59 tahfiz centres in Sabah, and as of now, 42 centres involving 2,395 students have been registered as fire squads, and we are waiting for the rest to follow suit," he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a fire safety awareness campaign held in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration here, today.
Nordin said the tahfiz fire squad played an instrumental role in providing awareness to all residents at the premises and in identifying fire hazards as well as assist with activities conducted by the department.
Meanwhile, Nordin urged the public to adhere to safe practices in order to avoid fire incidents during the upcoming festive period.
"Only with being cautious and alert can fires, which often destroy property and cause death, be prevented. We hope the community will continue to support efforts by the Fire and Rescue Department to ensure the success of this campaign," he said. — Bernama
