Architect fined RM2,000 for throwing shoe at cat

KUALA LUMPUR: An architect who threw his shoe at a stray cat at a lobby of a condominium here was fined RM2,000 in default two months' jail by the magistrate's court here today.
Magistrate Wong Chai Sia imposed the fine on Zaini Othman, 59, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of terrifying a black cat by throwing his shoe at the feline.
He committed the offence at Level 1, Intan Tower Maskiara Residence lift lobby, Jalan Datuk Sulaiman, Taman Tun Dr Ismail here between 6.40pm and 6.43pm on Sept 20, 2017.
The charge, under Section 44(1)(a) of the Animal Act 1953, read together with the Animals Act (Amendment) 2013 and punishable under Section 44(1) of the same Act, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 and jail of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.
In mitigation, Zaini who was unrepresented said he did not know that his act was against the law.
He paid the fine.
