Consider people's interest before scrapping projects: Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The government needs to be more transparent and considerate when cancelling the projects or initiatives of the previous government, which were implemented for the benefit of the people and country, according to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said that within a period of two weeks, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government had scrapped the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Railway and the Route 3 Mass Rail Transit (MRT3), although the studies carried out for many years had shown the economic benefits of both projects exceeded the construction cost.
According to Najib, the MRT3 project was also necessary to complement a more integrated public transport system network in the Klang Valley and without it the Klang Valley would continue to face increasing traffic jams.
"I don't care if the Pakatan government endeavoured to erase all the legacies left throughout the nine years of my tenure as Prime Minister.
"But the government must be more transparent when they began to cancel the various projects or initiatives started for the benefit of the people and country, just to erase my legacy or the perception that they were initiated by me, so they should be stopped or cancelled," Najib said an entry on his Facebook page today. — Bernama
