GEORGE TOWN: Residents in Sungai Dua here can sigh a heave of relief after the arch bridge in Jalan Sungai Dua here has been fully completed to keep out the frequent occurrences of flash floods in the area.
Sungai Dua Community Security and Development Committee (JKKK) chairman Zulfazdli Md Noordin said even though the flood mitigation project was delayed by a year, residents in the area were thankful that it was finally completed on April 18.
"On behalf of Sungai Dua residents, I would like to thank Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who was previously the State Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman for ensuring the project was implemented in the interest of the people here," he said.
"We could finally breathe easy each time there is a heavy rain as floodwater used to enter our houses and even our cars were not spared and we were at a loss on what we could do next," he told reporters after a meeting with the State Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman, Zairil Khir Johari today.
Earlier Zairil and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin visited the bridge and other works under the RM5 million flood mitigation project in Sungai Dua here. — Bernama
