Standby pumps to overcome water shortage woes in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Ministry of Infrastructure Development will provide standby pumps in each district to overcome the problem of water shortage.
Its minister, Datuk Peter Anthony, said the ministry will provide at least one or two standby pumps in each district to replace faulty standby pumps.
"This matter will be carried out immediately and will take a period of six months as the pumps have to be purchased from abroad," he told reporters after launching a road safety campaign in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration here today.
He hoped the new pumps would also address the issue of water shortage which previously had often been a public complaint.
"We will also hold discussions with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to address the issue of power supply disruption which often results in the malfunction of the current water pumps.
"We will find the best solution, including the provision of generator sets, also known as 'gensets', to address the issue," Peter added.
Commenting on the road safety campaign, he hoped that it would be able to reach its aim of promoting continuous awareness among drivers and motorcyclists, especially during the Aidilfitri festive season, in the effort to reduce the rate of road accidents. — Bernama
