17 motorcycles destroyed in workshop fire
BALIK PULAU: Seventeen motorcycles that were kept in a workshop at Sungai Rusa for repairs, went up in smoke in a fire here yesterday.
A Penang Fire and Rescue department spokesman said following a distress call at 12.37pm, fire engines from the Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.
"It took 15 minutes to control the spread of the fire before it was completely extinguished at 1.15pm," he said and added that the blaze also destroyed various motorcycle components and spare parts.
Earlier, the 49-year-old owner of the workshop who saw sparks coming out from the electric switch box, proceeded to salvage the motorcycles as well as put out the fire.
There were no casualties reported but the store owner suffered losses amounting to more than RM50,000 in the incident. — Bernama
