KOTA KINABALU: Former Perak deputy police chief Datuk Omar Mammah, 58, has been appointed the new Sabah Deputy Commissioner of Police, effective today.
He replaces Datuk Razaruddin Hussain @ Abd Rasid, who will, in turn, take up Omar's position in Perak.
The handing over of duties ceremony between Razaruddin and Omar took place at the Sabah Police Headquarters today, witnessed by Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din.
Omar in his speech after signing the handover certificate thanked the department for entrusting him with the post.
"As the number two, I will be responsible to assist the Sabah police commissioner in managing the force and ensuring that administrative and police operations run smoothly in line with the wishes of the police leadership," he said.
Omar, who is a native of Semporna, began his career with the police department on Dec 17, 1989, and has previously served as Sabah CID chief, Sabah Headquarter's Management Department chief, and Selangor CID deputy chief.
Meanwhile, Ramli believed that being a Sabahan, Omar had a good understanding of the state and would be able to cope with any situation.
"It is understood that this is his fourth time (Omar) being transferred to the Sabah contingent. This is indeed a great achievement," he said.
Ramli also thanked Razaruddin for carrying out his duties as deputy with dedication and efficiency.
In the meantime, Razaruddin in his speech said that an almost two-year assignment in Sabah had provided him with much experience.
He also thanked the leadership, especially the Sabah contingent for the trust, guidance, support and cooperation accorded to him throughout his 17 months in service there. — Bernama
