JASIN: Malaysian traditional herbal drink producer Orang Kampung Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd (OK Group) has sought an apology from six news portals and social media sites for allegedly spreading false news about the company.
Group Managing Director Habibul Ajmi' Manggar said the company fears the allegations could confuse consumers.
"We have received many calls and messages from consumers and foreign media questioning the veracity of the allegations, which have directly or indirectly tarnished the company's image and reputation.
"I refute and emphatically deny all these allegations against the products of OK Group such as Kacip Fatimah, Long Jack and Long Jack Gold (and that) it is owned by national business magnate Tan Sri Robert Kuok," he told a press conference at Wisma OK in Serkam near here today.
He identified the six new portals and social media sites as Says, Berita Steady, Oh My Media, Resepi Orang Kampung, Saya Orang Johor and PenMerah.com.
Habibul Ajmi' said an official letter will be sent to all six, adding if they fail to submit an apology, legal action against them will be taken through law firm Damian S.L Yeo & L.C Goh.
OK Group already has Good Manufacturing Practice certification for its traditional herbal and cosmetics products as well as MeSTI certification. It has 300 workers employed in three factories, two marketing companies and a research and development entity.
Founded by the late Datuk Manggar Haniff in the 1980s as a retail business, it later began manufacturing healthcare products registered with the Health Ministry. — Bernama
