LABUAN: A 35-year-old Puspakom agent was sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM10,000 in default three months jail, for accepting a bribe of RM200 from a vehicle owner.
Abdul Azri Mohd Karim pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manaf when the case was brought up for mention today.
Abu Bakar in meting out the sentence said this was to serve as a lesson to Abdul Azri and to remind him not to repeat the offence.
Abdul Azri had accepted the money from Junaidi Narajik as an inducement to approve two four-wheel drive vehicles though the parking brakes had failed.
He committed the offence inside a vehicle at the Puspakom compound in Batu Arang, Jalan Mustapha at 4.10pm on Nov 1.
The offence framed under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission 2009, provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
In another case siblings Tan Kok Chat, 37, and Tan Kok Huat, 45, pleaded not guilty to offering a RM3,000 bribe to a National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) senior assistant officer.
The court fixed July 13 for re-mention. — Bernama
