JPJ nabs bus drivers tested positive for drugs

    KANGAR: The Perlis branch of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) detained two bus drivers who tested positive for syabu (methamphetamine) in an operation, dubbed 'Op Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018', at the Bukit Lagi Bus Terminal here today.
    Its director, Shahrul Azhar Md Dali said the men, in their 30s, were found positive for using the banned substance following a screening by the National Anti-Drug Agency.
    "Such an offence should not have been committed by bus drivers as they put the lives of passengers at risk," he said after joining in the operation here.
    In BUKIT MERTAJAM, police detained a couple, aged 51 and 42, believed to be members of a house break-in gang in a raid at Taman Kenanga, Serdang in Kedah early today.
    Central Seberang Perai District Police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the couple, who have been on the police wanted list for a streak of criminal acts, were picked up at their rented house about 12.45am following intelligence and surveillance.
    Several items were seized in the raid including a Proton Gen 2 car which had been allegedly used for house break-ins, laptops of various brands, mobile phones and cash, he said here tonight.
    Meanwhile, in JOHOR BARU, eight fatal accidents were recorded in Johor during this year's 'Op Selamat 13/2018' road-safety campaign since it was launched last Friday.
    State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Razak Md Said said there has been a slight drop in the number fatalities as compared to 11 cases in the corresponding period last year.
    The accidents occurred on federal roads and the North-South Expressway, he told reporters at an integrated road-safety campaign in conjunction with Aidilfitri here today. — Bernama
