LABUAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called on the people of Labuan to work with the commission to curb graft and make Malaysia's International financial centre a corruption-free federal territory.
MACC Labuan director, assistant commissioner Abdulamin Abdillah, said the responsibility to combat corruption and abuse of power was not solely the MACC's but should be supported by the society at large.
"We must have the tendency to hate and reject corruption; more importantly, the people must cooperate with the MACC to fight corruption and abuse of power," he told Bernama.
Abdulamin said the commission appreciated the people's support regardless of age, race and religion because "corruption is detrimental to all layers of society".
"If one does not report a corrupt practice, one is passively encouraging corruption and allowing the corrupt to walk free. Tax money and resources that are meant to build the country are being wasted or siphoned for personal gain, and this must be stopped once and for all.
"The graft cases that are related to tampering with government revenue, hindering revenue collection, incurring government losses and carrying out development projects without following the rules must be addressed effectively," he said. — Bernama
