GEORGE TOWN: In a bid to save trees in the area, the Tanjung Bungah Residents Association (TBRA) has urged Penang state government and local authorities to immediately halt plans to cut down 21 trees along Jalan Loh Poh Heng.
According to its chairman R. Meenakshi, this was following a circular issued by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) dated June 10, informing that the trees will be removed and relocated for a road widening project.
She said the circular indicated that the directive was done as a precondition imposed by the Public Works Department (PWD) prior to commencement of the plan.
"We urge the chief minister Chow Kon Yeow, Penang Mayor Yew Tung Seang, Tanjung Bungah assemblymen Zairil Khir Johari and Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai to stop the plan to remove the trees," she said in press conference at Tiara View Apartment near here today.
Besides a protest today, the residents association also has launched an online petition to save the trees.
