Detained cop, ex-auxiliary cop linked to video game arcade robberies

KUALA LUMPUR: A police constable and a former auxiliary policeman who were detained at Jalan Perak here on Monday, are allegedly linked to a spate of robberies at video game outlets.
Dang Wangi police chief, ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah said the suspects, in their 20s and 30s, were behaving suspiciously in a Honda Civic when the police who were patrolling in a car in the vicinity about 4am, spotted them.
At that juncture, the driver of the Honda upon seeing the patrol car, accelerated and drove a distance, only to ram into a road shoulder. They were nabbed.
"After arresting the suspects, we found that one of them was a policeman while the other was a former auxiliary policeman.
"There was also an unemployed man (in the vehicle) who was tested positive for drugs. They admitted to committing crimes in the Serdang area.
"With the arrests, we believe we have solved several robbery cases committed at video games centres in Selangor," Shaharuddin told a press conference at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here today.
The police, he said, also seized several laptops, two knives and a black jacket bearing a police emblem.
The suspects were remanded for four days, beginning Monday, to facilitate investigations.
Meanwhile, Shaharuddin said two Indonesian women were picked up in connection with a spate of pickpocket cases in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here.
The suspects comprised a 58-year-old Malaysian permanent resident and a 34-year-old illegal immigrant.
Shaharuddin said the number of pickpocket cases in the Dang Wangi area during Ramadan had dropped as compared to the same period last year.
There were only 120 recorded cases this year as compared to 258 cases during the fasting month last year, he added. — Bernama
