Penang Umno nominates two names for party supreme council

KEPALA BATAS: Penang Umno will nominate two names to contest for posts in the supreme council at the party elections on June 30.
Kepala Batas Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he will defend the post while the other candidate is new face Bagan Umno division chief Datuk Shaikh Hussein Mydin.
"We (Penang Umno) will offer two young candidates, under aged 50, for the supreme council posts," he said when met at the Aidilfitri Open House in Wisma Umno here today.
He said the nominations was to fulfil the party's requirement for young people to hold posts in the supreme council for the 2018-2021 session.
Reezal Merican, who is also state Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman, said the selection of a new chairman to replace the current incumbent, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman would only be made after the party elections.
"At present, Zainal is still the chairman (Penang Umno) and performing duties as chairman," he said.
He said the state Umno Liaison chairman would be appointed after the party elections.
Earlier at the event, almost 5,000 guests thronged the compound of Wisma Umno, including Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq from Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM). — Bernama
