Websites with '.my' hit by technical glitch

PETALING JAYA: Local websites whose addresses end with ‘.my’ are likely to be inaccessible due to a technical glitch experienced by its Domain Name System (DNS) handler Mynic Berhad.
Mynic made an announcement on Twitter that it was facing problems linked to its DNS Security Extensions and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The announcement was also posted on their website and Facebook page.
“We are currently experiencing some technical issue related to DNSSEC chain with IANA. We feel sorry for any inconvenience to the customers.
“We are working hard to resolve this issue as soon as possible. More details will be issued from time to time,” Mynic said in the announcement posted on their website.
DNS allows computers and devices to find specific websites using human-readable addresses, instead of their specific IP addresses. Without it, users must manually enter the numbers that represent these websites.
Mynic is an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and is regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said in a tweet that he was informed of the matter this morning, and said remedial action is being taken by both Mynic and MCMC to resolve the issue.
"I was informed about the issue this morning. Action is underway by Mynic and MCMC to resolve it. Hopefully everything can be resolved soon," he said in response to a tweet from a twitter user.
The Puchong MP also added that more information will be made available once he receives a detailed report on the incident.
