No red cards after 11 World Cup matches for first time since 1986

There is no seeing red in Russia - at least not at the World Cup. Zero red cards have been given after 11 matches through four days of games, the longest wait for the first dismissal of the finals in 32 years.
The 2018 World Cup still has a while though before it would snap the all-time mark. The first red card of Mexico 1986 came in the 16th match. Before the tournament in Russia, world governing body FIFA publicly said it hoped to lower the number of dismissals because players know infractions can now be reviewed by the video assistant referees.
Referees handed out seven straight red cards and three yellow-reds at the 2014 World Cup while South Africa 2010 saw nine straight reds and eight second bookings. Referees were very busy at Germany 2006 with 28 dismissals, nine of them with straight red cards.
During the Serbia v Costa Rica match in Russia, Senegalese referee Malang Diedhiou reviewed on the sidelines an incident involving Serbian Aleksandar Prijovic and then showed him the yellow card after watching the replays.
