Jobless man with sweet tooth jailed for stealing candies

KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man with a sweet tooth was jailed three weeks by the magistrate's court here today for stealing sweets and candy from a convenience store in Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Magistrate Wong Chai Sia imposed the sentence after Nor Zaidi Nong, 45, pleaded guilty to stealing 15 packets of Strepsills, 16 packets of Fisherman's Friends and 41 packets of chocolates worth RM304 from Hospimart Shoppe Sdn Bhd.
He was accused of committing the offence at Hospimart Shoppe, at the lower level of HKL old building at 7.44am on June 18.
Zaidi was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which allocates a maximum of 10 year imprisonment and fine.

The court ordered the sentence to start from the arrest date on June 18.
Nor Zaidi who was not represented apologised to court for his actions and pleaded for a lighter sentence.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor K. Vasugi asked for a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused.
