More support for abolishing FT Ministry (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil society group has voiced its support for a suggestion by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok for the abolition of the Federal Territory Ministry.
Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), the human rights watchdog, suggested that the newly elected government should do away with it and replace it with a ministry that caters to the often neglected Orang Asal or the indigenous community.
"If the government does proceed with local council elections where people are given the right to vote for their respective mayors and councilors, this FT ministry would become redundant.
"Furthermore, of late we often see in the news that there were various scandals or controversies being exposed by the elected representatives on the ministry. So we need to ask ourselves if we do actually need such a ministry," Suaram director Kua Kia Soong said before the launch of Suaram's Malaysia Human Rights Report 2017.
