All four PH component parties backed me for MB: Idris

PETALING JAYA: Soon after Sungai Tua assemblyman Amiruddin Shari was sworn in as Selangor Mentri Besar, Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad claimed he had received the full support from all four Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties, (PKR, DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Parti Amanah Negara) for the position.
He claimed that Amirudin only had the support of outgoing Mentri Besar and Selangor PH chief Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali, who assumed the post of Economic Affairs Minister.
"As of June 4, there were letters from all four parties sent. I was the only one. But whatever subsequently happened after that I wouldn't know," he said during a press conference at his house today.
Dr Idris showed the media copies of the endorsement letters, which were supposedly signed by the four parties while confirming that three names including his own, and Seri Setia assemblyman Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, had been sent for the consideration of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, after the Sultan asked for three names.
The letters were allegedly penned in June and endorsed Idris as mentri besar. They were supposedly signed separately by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari; Selangor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) chief Izham Hashim; and Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua.
Dr Idris also claimed that before the 14th General Election he was touted as the next MB but was stunned when days later, it was Azmin who was sworn in as the MB.
He added that that decision also also did not receive the endorsement of PH.
Dr Idris claimed that he had asked people close to the party president and was informed that no one from party leadership gave a letter of support for Azmin.
Azmin, for his part, rejected Dr Idris' claims, saying that Amirudin's appointment as MB had been achieved through consensus.
He added that the party discussed the appointment thoroughly and with the consensus it was decided that Amirudin was the right person to succeed him.
Azmin said he was confident Amirudin would preform well as he had previously done a good job as an exco.
Meanwhile, PH de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has backed Amirudin as menteri besar and has appealed to all dissenting quarters to do the same as he represents the coalition.
"This can be resolved in an amicable manner within Harapan," he said in a Tweet today.
