Nipah virus from banana leaf? Seriously?

THE Health Ministry has debunked a viral message that linked a death at a local private hospital to the consumption of food wrapped in banana leaf, which supposedly caused the Nipah virus.
Selangor state health director Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim said there was no patient admitted to any hospital with such a case.
The district health offices, state health department and the ministry were not notified of any case involving any disease or incidence of food poisoning suspected to be caused by the use of banana leaves or infected with the Nipah virus.
The WhatsApp viral message stated that a woman had encountered breathing difficulties and later died after consuming a meal wrapped in banana leaf that supposedly had the virus.
Khalid urged the public not to believe news and messages that were unverified. He advised them to get confirmation from the ministry.
The viral message read:
"A Gentle Reminder. Banana Leaf - Foods/Kueh Kueh/Nasi Lemak & others Wrap In banana leaf. My sister 's immediate Neighbour went for Banana Leaf Rice with her Bro-in-law in Rawang Town on Thursday for lunch. In the evening she was feeling unwell, shortness of breath.
