SPSB Sues NSTP for RM250 million

KUALA LUMPUR: Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd (SPSB) today filed a RM250 million suit against The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP), which is the publisher of the Malay daily Berita Harian, over its reports on the property company and its involvement as the master developer of the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project at Jalan Semarak.
SPSB, in a statement today, said it also named Berita Harian (BH) reporter Che Wan Badrul Alias as the second defendant in the suit, which was filed through the legal firm Messrs. Reza Rahim & Rajivan.
It said the reports and articles on KLVC published by BH in its newspaper and online, did not conform with fair, ethical, and accurate journalism, whereby it had, among others, alleged SPSB as having wrongfully transferred assets belonging to Felda, leading the company to suffer potential losses.
SPSB claimed that it had served a notice of action, dated last June 1, to NSTP and Che Wan Badrul seeking for an apology and damages, but failed to get any respond from them.
Besides seeking damages of RM250 million, SPSB is also seeking an injunction to refrain the defendants from repeating and/or republishing the alleged defamatory statements.
It is also seeking the defendants to publish an apology to be issued based on the terms agreed by SPSB. — Bernama
